Turning a rough start into a new beginning
Life was rough growing up, says Derrick Braxton, founder and owner of 3Beez Entertainment. There was a lot of crime, a lot of violence. Growing up on the streets, Derrick found himself incarcerated, and he turned his attention to writing novels. “I wanted to express the idea that no matter what happens, karma will always catch up with you in the end.”
Derrick and his brother Darren are working together to build 3Beez Entertainment, a company that helps prisoners and the ex-convicts learn the craft of storytelling. From writing novels and movie scripts, to the creative process itself. “It can be tough for ex-cons to find work,” says Derrick. “But nobody can stop you from creating. Pick up a pencil and you can make your own work.”
SoundFridge was proud to partner with 3Beez to produce the first five in a series of short enhanced audiobooks. Recently I sat down with Derrick to discuss his life, his work, and his vision to help prisoners across the nation find creative outlets and rebuild their lives.
